  • National Quality In Construction Award for Innovative Use of Asphalt Pavements from the National Asphalt Paving Association

What We Did

This 2.2 mile-long straightaway is used by Chrysler to test vehicles to comply with Federal Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFÉ) requirements. The project included removing and replacing 1,000 feet of existing straightaway to correct longitudinal roadway elevations in addition to elevation corrections on the remainder of the track to achieve a completely flat longitudinal profile. This was accomplished by installing a Hot Mix Asphalt wearing course specially designed for surface frictional requirements.
