Michigan Asphalt & Concrete Plants Supporting High-Performance Paving Projects
Ajax operates a fully integrated system of asphalt and concrete plants that support high-specification infrastructure and heavy civil projects. These facilities include multiple asphalt mixing plants, centralized concrete batch plants, and a liquid asphalt terminal. Each site is engineered for consistent production quality, material precision, and operational safety across all project types.
Capabilities cover the full range of hot mix asphalt (HMA), warm mix asphalt (WMA), and polymer-modified asphalt mixtures. Equipment, personnel, and mix designs are calibrated to meet exacting standards in transportation, aviation, commercial paving, and specialty construction.
By controlling every step of the production process, we consistently achieve mix specifications, environmental compliance, and performance targets across all applications. Contact our team to review technical requirements and schedule production.
Material Production Capabilities
Ajax operates a coordinated system of quality asphalt and concrete production facilities built for large-scale, spec-driven paving work. Our plants and terminal support high-volume output with calibrated controls for mix accuracy, temperature consistency, and material flow.
Asphalt Plants
Ajax operates multiple high-capacity facilities throughout Michigan, each designed for precision, efficiency, and production scale. Our plants are AASHTO-accredited for both Quality Management and Asphalt Mixture, with safety protocols that align with strict industry standards.
Each asphalt mixing plant produces hot mix asphalt (HMA) and warm mix asphalt (WMA) at rates of up to 700 tons per hour, supported by silo storage capacities reaching 2,400 tons per site. Mix designs include Superpave, polymer-modified, porous, and high-performance cold asphalt blends, tailored for DOT, municipal, and commercial applications.
Asphalt Terminal
Our asphalt terminal is one of the largest liquid asphalt supply hubs in the state, engineered to maintain flow continuity for both internal paving crews and third-party contractors. The terminal supports 24/7 operations with a high-precision blending system that delivers on-demand asphalt cement formulated to exact engineering specifications.
A full-service certified lab, accredited by state DOTs across the Midwest and Ontario, ensures that each batch meets project-specific mix requirements. The terminal is equipped for large-scale distribution via rail, barge, pipeline, and truck, supporting projects that demand uninterrupted binder supply and technical consistency.
Concrete Plants
Ajax deploys mobile concrete batch plants configured to meet the specific requirements of large-scale paving projects. Each concrete plant is erected and calibrated on or near the jobsite following a full geographic and logistical assessment. Our crews are trained in dry mix plant operation and batch control, allowing production of consistent, spec-compliant concrete across variable site conditions.
With eight mobile central mix plants available, we can maintain high-yield daily output across multiple active sites, leading to schedule continuity and mix uniformity for highway, airfield, and structural paving projects.
Our Plants Handle Different Types of Asphalt & Concrete Projects
Ajax supports mission-critical infrastructure projects with precise material production and field-tested paving methods. Our capabilities span complex applications that require engineered asphalt and concrete solutions, high-capacity supply, and adherence to tight performance specifications.
- Asphalt: Delivered polymer-modified hot mix asphalt (HMA) and warm mix asphalt (WMA) for large-scale roadway reconstructions across Michigan, including I-94, M-1 (Woodward Avenue), and I-375. Recognized with multiple NAPA National Quality in Construction Awards for pavement consistency, joint density, and profile tolerance.
- Concrete: Supplied on-site central mix concrete through mobile batch plants for structural paving on major commercial and municipal projects. Crews are trained in dry mix plant operations and concrete control testing to meet project-specific slump, air content, and compressive strength criteria.
- Airports: Paved primary runways, taxiways, and apron areas at Detroit Metropolitan, Gerald R. Ford International, and Fort Wayne International Airports. Projects met FAA and DOT mix standards and earned NAPA awards for quality construction at Oakland County International and Romeo State Airports.
- Race Tracks & Test Tracks: Executed high-spec performance paving for the Michigan International Speedway, Watkins Glen, and Ford Arizona Proving Grounds. Asphalt mixes were formulated and placed to meet strict ride smoothness, traction, and thermal performance thresholds required for racing and vehicle testing.
Our team approaches each project with calibrated material designs, continuous quality oversight, and field coordination to meet critical infrastructure environments' functional and regulatory demands.
