Heavy Equipment Technician

Job Description


The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for performing repairs and planned maintenance of heavy-duty equipment. The position also troubleshoots malfunctions to diagnose an issue and communicates a resolution with the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Check all equipment regularly, execute preventative maintenance and effectively communicate to operator, foreman or equipment manager of any operating deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot problems on equipment properly and effectively with minimum downtime - mechanical, electrical and hydraulic repairs.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and maintains good housekeeping (5S) in shop area.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnosing of equipment malfunctions and failures.
  • Diagnoses and repairs equipment in our maintenance facilities, and in the field.
  • Completes all required reporting for service time in an accurate and efficiently; this includes writing service reports, properly allocating time to each job, and tracking parts charged and parts returned.
  • Meeting all safety requirements (including toolbox talks, man lift inspections, submitting incident reports, Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space entry, PPE, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid driver’s license, with ability to obtain Chauffeur or CDL
  • 1-2 years of mechanical experience, or in a related field
  • Experience with heavy equipment is preferred

Work Environment/Physical Abilities:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in the heat/cold, wet/humid and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. The physical abilities of this position require the employee to be able to frequently sit, stand, climb, low level work, reaching, bending, and trunk movements. Also may require carrying, pushing/pulling, dexterity of hands and fingers, seeing, hearing and talking. Lifting requirements may include up to 60 pounds. Traveling is an essential requirement of this position to ensure implementation of Heavy Equipment Technician functions.
