Opening Remarks

When we finish and wrap up a busy construction season, I’m always amazed at what our team at Ajax Paving Industries, Inc., has accomplished. Looking back I’m sure you’ll agree that most of the work we do is very complicated and could not have been completed without teamwork.

Without a doubt, teamwork is one of Ajax’s best attributes. In reading the articles featured in this issue of Pavement Digest, I was able to reflect on the amount of work that went into getting these projects completed, and I am very proud of every one of our team members for all we achieved.

On the Chelsea Oval, Ajax put together a team of its best subcontractors, purchased the very best equipment, and utilized veteran employees to successfully pave nearly 5 miles of test track at slopes of 35 degrees. This is an incredible feat. In Kalamazoo, our Tri-Venture team came up with innovative ways to save time and money while installing more than 400,000 square yards of concrete on the I-94 corridor. This east-west interstate is one of several crucial to the state of Michigan. In Ann Arbor, it took a concerted effort on the part of each team member to keep our crews safe on the I-94 project, and we are grateful for another incident-free work zone. Be sure to check out the Tarpon Avenue article on page 20, which yielded great results for the motoring public and Ajax. All of the projects featured seem to illustrate Ajax’s “team” concept. Even this magazine wouldn’t be possible without our key subcontractors and suppliers who are part of our team. Finally, customers are the captains of our team. They provide the playbook and are always involved in projects from beginning to end.

The team is busy gearing up for 2008 and looking for new opportunities. We’re in the midst of dismantling our asphalt plant on Inkster Road and replacing it with a brand new, state-of-the-art facility. In Florida, we’re busy on the massive I-75 project that was introduced in issue six and will be featured again in future issues. We’re also bidding large concrete projects all over the country. Even with the current economy, Ajax looks forward to booming business and continued success in 2008.

A big thanks to all of our customers and partners for being part of our team. We hope you enjoy this issue of Pavement Digest.
